James Marlow, of Dodgeville, has received the 2025 Educator of the Year Award from the Bluebird Restoration Association of Wisconsin (BRAW). According to BRAW President Steve Sample, “Marlow has led the way in educating adults and campers about ecology and bluebird issues at Bethel Horizons Nature Center & Camp.”   The full-time environmental education director said his interest in helping birds was sparked by his grandfather, Eugene Woehler.

The Iowa-Grant School Board received updates on maintenance projects at their regular monthly meeting Monday. Director of Buildings and Grounds Mike Oium provided updates on bids for sealing the exterior split-face masonry at IGEMS and locker replacement at the high school. New bids will be sought for the high school student lockers. The new bids should include what will be needed in the locker room renovation project.

Saturday, March 15 will be the 16th time a St. Patrick’s Day parade will have taken place in the little village of Avoca, located about 20 minutes northwest of Dodgeville on Highway 133. It began on a wim of two ladies with “zero” funds. The first parade went about a block and a half. Now it goes from the old school house through the downtown. This year’s “Irish Rose” will be Kathy Elliott and her family. They will represent the village as the Grand Marshals.

A Dodgeville man, Lee Kaul, made his initial appearance Tuesday in Iowa County Court for Attempted Armed Robbery with the Use of Force, False Imprisonment, Disorderly Conduct, and Felony Bail Jumping.  Kaul appeared in court via Zoom from the Iowa County Jail.  His attorney Allison Markoski appeared in court.  District Attorney Zachary Leigh for the State.  Judge Matthew Allen presided.

By Kenyon Bennett Representatives from the Dodgeville Public Library and HGA, a Madison architectural firm, held a community meeting Wednesday, Jan. 22, at Dodgeville High School and outlined a plan for the proposed library expansion project. Mayor Barry Hottmann assisted during the presentation. Carrie Portz, library director, provided input during the informational meeting. HGA associates presented the library’s renovation design proposal.

Barneveld’s girls basketball  coach Jimmy Myers reached the plateau of becoming the all-time winningest coach in Wisconsin girls basketball history on Thursday night, January 23 when he recorded win number 711, surpassing Al Guthman of Owen-Withee. Barneveld won the game over Juda 86-27.. Myers returned to Barneveld this season for his second stint as the program's head coach. He previously spent 38 years leading the girls basketball program and added two seasons leading the boys team.

Voters in the Dodgeville School District will be asked to allow the revenue limit to be exceeded when they go to the polls April 1. The Dodgeville School Board passed a resolution Monday asking that the revenue limit be allowed to be exceeded by $2,490,000 beginning with the 2025-26 school year.  The revenue generated will be used for operational expenses and would be recurring. At the last election the board asked that the revenue limit be allowed to be exceeded by $2,900,000.
