Martin (Marty) McGrath

Martin (Marty) McGrath, age 94, of Dodgeville, the McGrath family is saddened to announce the passing of their father. Marty passed away in his sleep peacefully on Friday, February 21, 2025, with family at his side. Marty was married to Juanita McGrath for 50 years, who preceded him in 2021. Marty was born in St. Louis, Missouri to Mabel Francis Burke and Martin McGrath Sr. After high school he joined the U.S. Marine Corps and was later sent to Korea.

Marcia Rae Gort

Marcia Rae Gort, age 75 of Dodgeville, WI, passed away on Sunday, February 23, 2025 from cancer. Marcia was born on August 25, 1949 in Mineral Point, WI at St. Joe’s Hospital. She lived with her parents, older brother, identical twin sister, and younger brother on a farm in Jonesdale, WI. After graduating from Mineral Point High School in 1967, she completed the City College of Cosmetology beauty school in Madison, WI and worked in a beauty shop in Hollandale, WI.

Samuel Joseph Graber

Samuel Joseph Graber, age 82, time on earth ended early Sunday, February 23, 2025 at Manor Court in Rochelle, IL. We are sad. Yet, we are grateful his suffering has ended and he is now at peace. Sam was born on June 27, 1942 in Dodgeville, Wisconsin. He was the seventh child of Ernest and Lenora (Schaaf) Graber. He grew up in Mineral Point, WI alongside his life long friend, Tom Speich. Together, they excelled in sports; each a member of the Mineral Point High School Hall of Fame.

Steven J. Lawinger

Steven J. Lawinger, age 70, of Mineral Point, passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 22, 2025, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Madison. Born on February 18, 1955, to Bill and Helena (Salzmann) Lawinger, Steve was raised on a dairy farm south of Mineral Point, where his passion for farming took root. His strong work ethic and determination shaped his success in both agriculture and athletics throughout his life. Steve attended St.

Richard “Dick” Casper Laufenberg

Richard “Dick” Casper Laufenberg, aged 84, passed away at his home on Saturday, February 22, of natural causes. Born on December 31, 1940, in Dodgeville, he was the son of Casper and Viola (Blabaum) Laufenberg. Richard's journey began in Highland Schools, when he met Sharon Tucker, the love of his life, in 1956.

Lillian M. Spitzbarth

Lillian M. Spitzbarth, age 87, of Mineral Point, passed away on February 21, 2025 at Upland Hills Health in Dodgeville.  Lillian was born on July 9, 1937 near Dickeyville, Wisconsin, a daughter of William and Lillie Udelhoven. Lillian married Edward Spitzbarth of Mineral Point on May 15, 1956 at St. Thomas Catholic Church in Montfort. They lived on their family farm north of Mineral Point throughout their 69 years of marriage.

Paul Stanley Godfrey

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Paul Stanley Godfrey who left this world peacefully on February 19, 2025 at the age of 84 after a courageous battle with bladder cancer. He was born in Mineral Point on November 21, 1940 to Mason & Lois Godfrey. Paul grew up the son of a dairy farmer and worked on the farm alongside his father. Farming was "in his blood" and even after completing college, he continued to help out on the family farm.

Patrick D. Thym

Patrick D. Thym passed away on Tuesday, February 18, 2025 after a long illness. He was born in Dodgeville along with his twin brother, Paul, on December 9, 1936 to Mary (Owens) and Paul Thym. Pat graduated from Dodgeville High School and right after that he and his brother opened a burger and malt diner called the Huddle in 1957. He loved to cook and entertain people so he and Paul continued their dream and built The Thym’s Supper Club in 1964 which continued for 45 years.

Jerry A. Wenger

Jerry A. Wenger, 87 of New Glarus, formerly of Dodgeville, peacefully passed away on February 12, 2025, with his wife at his side at New Glarus House.  Jerry was born on June 25, 1937, to Ambrose and Wilma (Derendinger) Wenger in Monroe, WI. He was a graduate of New Glarus High School. He served in the Army from November 1956 to November 1959 as part of the 101st Airborne Division, specifically the 187th Airborne Infantry Regiment.

Gretchen L. James

Gretchen L. James, age 96 of Dodgeville, passed away on February 17, 2025. Gretchen was born on January 20, 1929, in Dodgeville to LeRoy and Isabel (Jenks) Grunenwald. She was a 1947 graduate of Dodgeville High School and a graduate of Arizona State University with a Master's Degree in Physical Education.  Gretchen then taught physical education for three years in Fresno, CA before returning to Phoenix where she taught and coached at Camelback High School for 21 years.

Eileen Zwettler Harrington

Eileen Zwettler Harrington, age 101, entered eternal life Saturday, February 15, 2025.  Remarkably, it is the same day, date and approximate time as her husband, Jack, in 1992. She was born June 20, 1923 to Joseph and Mary (Bergen) Zwettler in Pine Bluff, WI.  Eileen was the youngest of ten children and often remarked that she was rather spoiled and quite a tomboy.

Jody Kay Halverson

Jody Kay Halverson, passed away unexpectedly on February 8, 2025, at her home in Arlington, TX. She was born February 5, 1958 in Dodgeville, WI, the daughter of Lynn Halverson (Trankle) and  Dallas Halverson. Jody's early years were spent on the farmlands of SW Wisconsin, where she attended Iowa Grant High School.

Barbara Jo Hildreth

Barbara Jo Hildreth, age 62, of Dodgeville, Wisconsin passed away on Monday, February 10, 2025, at Agrace Hospice Center in Fitchburg after a long hard-fought battle with COPD. Born on February 15, 1962, in Dodgeville, WI, to her wonderful parents George and Joan Hildreth. She spent most of her childhood residing in Mineral Point, Wisconsin and then chose to raise her kids in Dodgeville as Dodgeville Dodgers.

James E. Borcherding

James E. Borcherding, 82, of Dodgeville, passed away peacefully Wednesday, February 12, 2025, after battling Lewy body dementia. Jim was born June 26, 1942 in Dodgeville to William and Agnes (Bockhop) Borcherding. He graduated from Hollandale (1960). He married Luanne Gilbertson of Barneveld in 1968, 56 years ago.  Together they have 4 children, Scott, Todd, Kevin and Donna.  Jim was raised on a farm and enjoyed operating his own.  He worked at Bickford farm and Hanor pig operation.

Robert W. Pierce

Robert W. Pierce, age 84, of Livingston, Wisconsin, passed away at home on Monday, February 10, 2025. He was born in Mt. Ida Township, the son of Maurice and Sadie (Schnitzler) Pierce. On November 3, 1962, Bob married the love of his life, Mary Starr. He worked at three cheese factories, then he went to Nelson/ Fleet Guard in Mineral Point, where he dedicated 33 years, retiring in 2010. Bob loved to fish, play the lottery, hunt, watch football and the Brewers, woodwork, and fix up the house.

Geraldine D. “Geri” Rowen

Geraldine D. “Geri” Rowen, age 93, of Dodgeville, completed her life-long journey on Saturday, February 8, 2025 at Upland Hills Nursing & Rehab Center in Dodgeville. Geraldine was born on November 16, 1931 in Highland, WI to George and Dorothy (Blabaum) Sittig. On November 10, 1951, she was united in marriage to Gerald Rowen in Dodgeville. She was a partner with her husband as a bookkeeper for Rowen Electric, Inc.
